University of St. Mary of the Lake (Mundelein Seminary)
With roots in a charter granted more than 140 years ago, Mundelein Seminary of the University of St. Mary of the Lake prepares candidates academically, formationally and spiritually for the Roman Catholic priesthood. As a canonically erected Pontifical Theological Faculty, Mundelein Seminary of the University of St. Mary of the Lake is empowered to confer the bachelor, licentiate and doctoral degrees in sacred theology. Although originally most of the students attending Mundelein Seminary came from the Archdiocese of Chicago, its alumni now include students from other dioceses in the state of Illinois and throughout the country.
University of St. Mary of the Lake (Mundelein Seminary) is located in Mundelein, 40 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, and can be reached by taking the Tri-State Tollway (I-94) north to the Route 176 exit and then Route 176 west to Mundelein. The seminary is located on the campus of the University of St. Mary of the Lake on the north side of Route 176.
